Aim - Learning Carpentry structures and their uses
Info – Strong structures are required in carpentry for good looking and durable products. For making these structures joints are used.
Joints are categorized in 4 groups –
1. Lengthening Joints
2. Broadening Joints
3. Framing Joints
4. Angular Joints
Types of Structure –
1. Lap Joints – Two pieces of wood are joined together by making interlocking slits.
2. Simple Lap Joints – This type of joint is useful in increasing wood piece length.
3. Corner Lap joints – This joint is used at corners where fineness is required.
4. Cross Lap Joints – This joint is used to join two strips of wood in a 90 degree angle.
5. Half Lap Joints – This is the simplest joint used for normal wood work where not much effort is required.
6. Tenon and Mortis Joint – This type is used while making frames.
Conclusion –
There are many types of joints used in woodworking and it is necessary to use all of them as they are dedicated to their own jobs.
