Threading and Tapping
Ø Aim –
Threading a Rod and Tapping a Hole.
Ø Tools –
Vernier Caliper, Bench Vice, MS Square Plate, Taps, Drill Bit, Tap Holder.
Ø Info –
Tapping has 3 Types:
·
Primary Tap – Is soft at bottom which creates a path.
·
Secondary Tap – Has Sloping Threads.
·
Taper Tap – The final tap which completes the path
fully.
Tapping means threading an already drilled hole object from
the inside to fit a bolt in it. The type of path used in tapping is the Helical
Path.
British Tap has big thread spacing and a metric Tap has smaller
complex thread spacing.
Firstly, any hole is drilled first the reamed, after reaming
the hole is then tapped.
Reaming means cleaning a drilled hole.
Tapping means making threads from the inside of the hole.
Ø Procedure –
1. Take a
square plate with a thickness of 5mm. (50*50*5) mm.
2. That square
plate should be equal.
3. Brush away
the rust from the plate.
4. Fix the
plate on a drill vice.
5. Drill the
plate.
6. Clean the
hole using a reamer.
7. Fix the
primary tap in the stock.
8. Fix the
steel plate in a bench vice.
9. Then start
to tap it like a screw.
10.
Do it 1 – 2 times then fic the secondary tap and so
on.
11.
While doing this use cutting oil to prevent tool
damage.
12.
In this way you tapping will get completed.
Ø Conclusion –
From the above I understood how to do Threading and Tapping.
